Gilbert V. Christensen of Sandown, NH, formerly of Holliston, Massachusetts died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was 86 years old.

Born on December 9, 1926 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he was the son of Olger V. & Fanny I. (Reed) Christensen. Gilbert was raised in Natick from the age of twelve and attended Natick Schools. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and fought in the Pacific campaign during World War II with the sixth division. He was very proud of his military service and served our country proudly.

Mr. Christensen was a Natick resident for four years, Holliston for twenty-six years and then lived in Sandown, New Hampshire. He worked as a manager for West Newton Auto Body for twenty years and enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars, RV camping and traveling, fishing, boating, playing pool and chess. He was a member of the Holliston VFW, Post 8507 and the American Legion.

Gilbert was the devoted husband of Mary T. (Waugh) Christensen with whom they shared sixty-six years of marriage. He was the loving father of Steven G. Christensen & his wife Dale J. of Sharon, NH & Gail A. Riendeau & her husband Richard R. of Kingston, NH. Cherished grandfather of Steven J., & Michael P., Christensen & James V. Dalesio, Jr. Great grandfather of Alexander, Alyssa, James, III, Nicholas & Victor. Brother of Roy Christensen & his late wife Mary of Massachusetts & uncle of Arthur, Kathy & the late Linda.

Funeral Services are private and under the direction of John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common.

Betty Jane Cairns Clancy passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the age of 84 years at the home of her daughter. She was born in Brookline, MA on July 24, 1929, daughter of Dr. Ambrose Cairns and Gladys Lally Cairns. She was the devoted wife of the late Honorable Joseph D. Clancy of Palm Coast, FL, formerly of Marstons Mills, MA and Natick, MA.

She was the sister of Joan Drobot of Palm Coast, FL, the Late William Cairns, and the late Lorraine Bizier.

She is survived by her six children: Joan Clancy Borgatti and her husband Randy of Pocasset, MA; Dennis Clancy and his wife Sharon of Holliston, MA; Brian Clancy of Holliston, MA; Michael Clancy and his wife Mary of Eden Prairie, MN; Janet Goldberg and her husband Larry of Ashland, MA; and Jane Sweeney of Osterville, MA.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Christopher Borgatti and his wife Lisa, Elizabeth Borgatti, Emilia Clancy, Sarah Clancy, Douglas Goldberg, Katherine Goldberg, Andrew Clancy, Joseph Clancy, Patrick Clancy, Timothy Clancy, and Aidan Sweeney. In addition she leaves two great-grandchildren, Tessa and Joseph Borgatti and her grand-nephew Garbriel Drobot.

Mrs. Clancy also leaves her sister-in-law Barbara (Bobbi) Cairns and nieces and nephews John, Ann, and Scott Drobot.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, October 19th, at 9:00 A.M. from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church at 10:00 A.M.
Visiting hours are Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Helena (Matejkowski) Cyzeski, 88, of Holliston, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of the late Stanley and Katherine (Kowalewski) Matejkowski and is pre-deceased by her husband Eugene Cyzeski and her son Robert Cyzeski. Helen is survived by her two grandsons, Michael and John Cyzeski and also her daughter-in-law Gail Cyzeski, all of Holliston.

Helen was born in Bronowo, Poland and came to the United States in 1930, settling in Medway where she lived for over seventy years. After graduating from Medway High School in 1943, she enjoyed a long career as a secretary.

Throughout Helen’s life, she stayed active walking, being a dedicated member of St. Joseph Church in Medway, was an avid fan of football and baseball, and enjoyed spending time with family and many of the lifelong friends she had in Medway. Later in life Helen was a member of the Medway Senior Center and greatly enjoyed going on senior trips with them.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Tuesday, November 12 at 9 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Thomas J. Crowe, 55, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8th at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence in Wayland. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia A. “Patti” (Appleyard) Crowe of Berlin.
Thomas was born in Boston, son of the late Arnold and Anna (Russo) Crowe. He was a 1977 graduate of Salem High School, a former resident of Hudson, and resided in Berlin for the last 18 years. Prior to his illness, he was employed as an Applications Engineer by WEB Industries of Holliston.
Thomas was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends. He spent many hours in his spare time tinkering in his garage and took great pride in the care of his home, especially in the care of his lawn every spring and summer. He will be truly missed.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Bryan Crowe of Berlin; his two sisters, Donna Cheney of South Carolina, Barbara Crowe of California and his brother, Tony Crowe of Brookline, NH. He is also survived by his several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at on Saturday, Jan. 18th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Grand Hall at the 1870 Town Hall, 12 Woodward Avenue, Berlin.

NATICK: Peter D. Christi, age 90, a longtime Natick resident, currently of Northborough, died on Tuesday evening, March 11, 2014, after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Marion M. (Vangel) Christi for 61 years. Born in Holliston, he was the son of the late Demetre and Thomaidha (Ndini) Christi. Peter was raised and educated in Natick and worked at Box and Board prior entering the Army serving as a private with the 9th division and later the 94th. Peter was employed in sales for most of his career. He and Marion were married on June 1, 1952, and after working several years in the restaurant business with Marion’s father, Peter started with the Fuller Brush Company. He subsequently worked with Shakours Beauty Supply prior to establishing his own beauty supply business. Over several years of hard work, he was able to build a route of strong and loyal customers throughout the Greater Boston and MetroWest areas. Peter was still personally caring for a number of clients until his 75th birthday. The Christi family enjoyed three or four day weekend expeditions to places from Cape Cod to New Hampshire every week throughout the summer months. Together they visited every New England beach and walked each amusement park. Peter enjoyed eating out and had such a gift for names and faces that nearly everywhere the family went, he would meet people or restaurant staff he knew. There was no better advertisement for a business than to have Peter in your corner. A phenomenal harmonica player, he loved big band music, dancing the jitterbug with his Marion, and sharing life experiences, new and old, with his grandchildren. He is survived by Marion; a daughter, Stephanie J. Travis (Henry) of Northborough; two sons, Peter J. Christi (Roberta Gulick) of Holliston, and Mark S. Christi of Northborough; three grandchildren, Stephan, Demetrius, and Jessie; two sisters, Krisanthi Peters of CT, and Katherine Bishop of CA; and many relatives and friends. His funeral will be at Albanian Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 37 Washington Street, Natick, on Monday, March 17th at 10:30a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Dell Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Sunday 2 – 5p.m. Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

HOLLISTON: Dr. John Andrew Growich, Jr., age 89, a renowned microbiologist and geneticist, gentle father and loving friend, died peacefully at home in Holliston after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Evelyn Lucas Growich, who passed away in 1971, and Clare Schneider Growich, who predeceased him in 2005. Born and raised in the Hollis section of Queens, New York, he was a son of the late John A. and Ethel (Kostacky) Growich. John entered the Navy after graduating from high school and served with Naval Aviation. Trained as a Hellcat pilot, he was one of the fortunate ones not to see battle. After the war he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Muhlenberg College and went on to earn two doctorates: one in genetics and the other in microbiology, both from Lehigh University. John married Evelyn in 1949. After John completed his education in Allentown, PA, they made their home in New City, NY, where he would be a longtime dedicated Warden at Saint John’s Episcopal Church. John was employed for 43 years with American Cyanamid’s Lederle Labs in Pearl River, NY, where among his many innovations, he developed tetracycline and its many derivatives that are still in use today. He was also an effective troubleshooter for contamination issues commonly found in the production of pharmaceuticals, and offered his expertise to colleagues in Spain, Japan, Italy, Canada, India, and Brazil. A family oriented man known for unreserved honesty in his opinions, John was forever enchanted with his grandchildren. A world traveler and proficient gardener, he and Clare, whom he had married in 1973, moved to Monterey, California in 1996. John spent the next many years as a volunteer docent at the Monterey Aquarium and as a nursing home ombudsman. He left Monterey in 2009, and moved to Holliston to be closer to family. He had since been active with the Pilgrim Church in Sherborn. He is survived by two daughters and a son, Nancy Claire Vaida of Medway, William Growich of New City, NY, and Janet Murray of PA; and four grandchildren, Allison Rose and her husband Thomas Rose, Jr. of Medway, Justin Vaida and his wife JoAnn Cohen-Vaida of Attleboro, Evan Vaida of Medway, and Janel McKinster of CO. . John is also survived by a large and loving extended family, among them Bobbi Badgley of FL; Conti Whitney, Judy Schneider, Janet Schneider, Eric Schneider, and John Schneider, all on the West Coast; and Clare Barringer and husband Drew of London. He was also predeceased by a son, John A. Growich, II, and his sister, Ethel Badgley His Memorial Service will be held in the Pilgrim Church UCC Congregational, 25 South Main Street (Rte 27) Sherborn, on Saturday, March 29th at 10:00a.m. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in John ‘s memory to the church music program.

Ann (Keighery) Feeney, 84, of Medway, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham. She was the beloved wife of Patrick Feeney died in 1984. Born in Ireland on September 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Kelly) Keighery. Mrs. Feeney was a resident of Medway since 1995 and formerly resided in Holliston. She had worked as a housekeeper at St. Mary Rectory in Holliston for 15 years. Mrs. Feeney was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by six children, James Feeney and his wife Ellen of Santa Clara, CA, Francis Feeney and his wife Gleide of Worcester, Brendan Feeney and his wife Melinda of Northborough, Patricia Wright and her husband Steven of West Greenwich, RI, Michael Feeney and his wife Karen of Littleton and Linda O’Toole and her husband Michael of Medway. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Frances O’Malley and Maureen Lynch. NATICK: Daniel J. McElhinney, Jr., age 71, of Natick, formerly of Sherborn, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 21, 2014. He was the devoted husband of the late Kathleen L. (Bowen) McElhinney for 38 years. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Redmond) McElhinney. Dan was raised in Dorchester and, after graduating from Roslindale High School, enlisted with the US Air Force. Dan and Kathleen were married in 1966 and lived several years in Jamaica Plain prior to settling in Sherborn in 1975. Employed at his family’s shade and blind shop, he ventured on his own, opening Home Specialists in Watertown in 1984. Years later he moved the store to Natick, where his son Kevin joined him. With the expanding offerings at the store, it was soon restyled H.S. Awning and Tent, the name it bears today. He was a longtime member and Past Commander of the Natick American Legion Post 107. While active he enjoyed running the Post’s meat shoots. Predeceased by his wife Kathleen, his brother William, sister Carol Ann and grandson, Dennis, he is survived by a daughter, Linda K. McElhinney and her partner David Bailey of Farmington, NH; five sons, Daniel P. McElhinney and his wife Laura of Natick, Dennis J. McElhinney of Natick, Sean M. McElhinney and his wife Liane of Ottawa, Canada, Kevin R. McElhinney and his wife Michele of Holliston, and Michael H. McElhinney and his wife Magan of South Berwick, ME; three sisters, Marie Williams and her husband Harry of Beauford, SC , Betty Jane Petrillo and her husband Joseph of Petaluma CA, , and Kathleen McElhinney of Yarmouth; 20 grandchildren, Daniel, Bailey, Cassidy, Ashley, Edward, Patrick, Kimberlin, Brendon, Eva, Christian, Abigail, Kathleen, Kaitlin, Cadence, Constance, Jason, Hunter, Gavin, Aydin, and Trinity. Marjorie D. (Chapman) Devlin, 79, formerly of Wayland, died at her residence in Holliston on Friday, October 17, 2014 She was born in Ashdon, England on August 5, 1935 the daughter of the late William Chapman and Rose (Hampton) Chapman. Marjorie was the loving wife of the late John F “Jack” Devlin who died on June 22, 1985. She was the devoted mother of Marjorie Themeli and her husband Sean Themeli of Holliston, Michael J. Devlin and his wife Dianne Devlin of Framingham and Daniel J. Devlin and his wife Bethann Devlin of Rutland. Cherished grandmother of John Themeli, Matti Themeli, Elizabeth Themeli and Nicole Themeli all of Holliston; Jake Devlin and Zack Devlin of Framingham and Meghan Devlin, Jack Devlin and Joseph Devlin all of Rutland. Sister of David Chapman of England and John Chapman and his wife Peggy Chapman of England. Sister-in-law of Sally Frazier of Naples, FL; Mary Mills of Ft. Smith, AR; Robert Devlin and his wife Karen of Sudbury and the late Dan Frazier, Jim Mills, Jody and Frank Bonarrigo. Marjorie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She spent her earlier years in England where she was educated and came to the United States in the early 1960’s with her husband John “Jack” and they raised their children in Wayland. She resided in Wayland for over 20 years before moving to Holliston 14 years ago. She was a fabulous cook and everyone looked forward to being the recipient of her dinners. She knitted many items for her family and friends over the years. She was a member for over 52 years of the TBPA Club with the Bisto Kids Chapter of Framingham. She was a loving and doting grandmother to her nine grandchildren who were the center of her life. She had a wide circle of friends and remained very active with them. She also enjoyed time spent as a member of the Holliston Senior Citizens Club. Marjorie will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by her family and friends. Visitations will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Ann’s Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Rte 27) Wayland. Interment will follow in the Devlin family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland. Peter James Murphy 80, formerly of Sudbury, died Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Eliot Health Care Center in Natick. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (McNeil) Murphy sharing 54 years of marriage. Born in Quincy he was the son of the late Walter and Alice (Dunn) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was in the Real Estate business for 45 years retiring in 2005.He owned the Harvest Realty Company of Sudbury for 25 years and later worked with his dear friend, the late Nancy Taylor-Leonard at NB Taylor Realty Company in Sudbury. After retirement, he and Virginia moved to the Fort Meyers, FL area. Mr. Murphy spent many summers in Scituate with his family and also enjoyed boating. Mr. Murphy grew up in Newton and was a graduate of St Mary’s High School in Waltham where he played Varsity Football. He was a Sargent in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War. In addition to his wife he is survived by six children Peter J. Murphy Jr. of Scituate, Paul F. Murphy of Hull, Brian E. Murphy of Holliston, David C. Murphy of Natick, Stephen P. Murphy of Natick and his wife Sarah, Gail C. Otis of Tolland, CT and her husband Brian, seven grandchildren, Mckayla, Elizabeth, Kelli Anne , Hailey, Sophia, Colin ,and Kiley, two brothers, Walter E. Murphy of Spokane WA, Stephen R. Mary E. Marden, age 95, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday morning, October 20, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick T. Marden. Born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Lodick) Matusick, she moved with her family while in her youth to Buffalo, NY. There Mary graduated from high school and continued her education at the E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. After earning her RN, she entered the United States Army and served until her marriage to Frederick in 1942. The Mardens made their home in Massachusetts, eventually settling in Natick in 1947. Mary was employed with Leonard Morse Hospital for several years prior to joining the nursing staff at Cushing Hospital in Framingham. She retired from Cushing after 20 years of service. She was a loving lady who was devoted to her family and her church. Predeceased by her husband in 1961, she is survived by four sons, Frederick Marden of Framingham, James Marden and his wife Marsha of Gaylordsville, CT, Richard Marden and his wife Christina of Holliston, and Joseph Marden and his wife Anna of Franklin; her daughter, Barbara Marden of Natick; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patricks Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, on Saturday, October 24th at 10:00A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Friday 4 to 7PM.

NATICK: Stephen J. Flaherty, age 58, of Natick and Ireland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 21, 2016. He was the loving father Shannon Tara and her husband Pusel Balasoiu of Ireland. Beloved son of late Thomas and Rita (Horan) Flaherty and brother of the late Joan E. Flaherty, he is also survived by his wife, Deborah (Gaffney) of Ireland; a sister, Patricia Sullivan and her husband Dennis of Natick; two brothers, Michael T. Flaherty and his wife Karen of Holliston, formerly of Natick, and Timothy McMahon of Natick; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, March 18th beginning at 2:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service at 4:30 P.M. Burial will be private.
